Sawa World Solution: Making Clay Stoves
According to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), 89% of rural Ugandans use firewood to cook. This puts a massive demand on our forests and if we keep using wood at this rate the country could become a desert as early as 2050! But don’t worry, Sawa World Spark Prosy Ssebunya and the more than 5,000 people she has trained are not going to let this happen.
Prosy became an expert on making fuel-efficient stoves while studying industrial ceramics. Now she shares her expertise with others as the Executive Director of Promoters of Efficient Technology for Sustainable Development. Here Prosy teaches members of her community how to make clay stoves, which dramatically decrease coal or firewood consumption while protecting the environment and helping her students earn an income.
