Sawa World has received prestigious awards for their their innovative way to solve poverty with local solutions to income generation.

The Waislitz Global Citizen Award is a $100,000 prize that will be presented to an individual who best demonstrates global citizenship, impact, innovation, and potential. Daphne Nederhorst was selected as a finalist in for the award in 2015.
Ashoka identifies and supports the world leading social entrepreneurs with innovative solutions to the most press social problems. After an intensive selection process, Ashoka elects them as Ashoka Fellows into its global network of over 3,000 Fellows across 72 countries. Daphne Nederhorst was elected as an Ashoka Fellow in 2009.
Since 2007 Teach a Man to Fish in partnership with The Saville Foundation have been rewarding organisations that contribute to Africa’s long term growth and development through an entrepreneurial approach to education and training. Sawa World won the Pan-African Award for Innovation in Education in 2015.

Daphne Nederhorst, Sawa World’s Founder, was nominated as a semi-finalist with a chance to present to the greatest philanthropists and business minds in the world, from Bill Gates to Warren Buffett at United Nations in New York at the 2013 Forbes 400 Summit of Philanthropy.

Univisión is an American Spanish language broadcast television network that partners with the Americas Business Council (abc*) Foundation, a think-do tank that supports high-impact leaders and initiatives in the Americas.  Daphne Nederhorst was one of the 12 Ashoka Fellows that spoke at the ABC Forum in 2012 received the Univision Award.
