New Partnership in Zambia: A perfect fit!
While in Lusaka, Zambia, Sawa Founder, Daphne Nederhorst formed an exciting new partnership with the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM). A meeting with the organization’s senior team to discuss the partnership confirmed a perfect fit.
ZAMCOM, which has close to 80 employees, a well equipped campus with several television and radio broadcasting and recording studios, editing suites, and computer labs, will be Sawa’s largest partner to date. However, what makes ZAMCOM unique is its community media program. Its mandate is to carry out issue based training programs in the areas of HIV/AIDS and gender for the media and communication industry. This includes working with community media programs and vulnerable youth.
ZAMCOM’s Television Program Manager, Chishaba Masengu, who brings years of professional expertise to the project, expresses his enthusiasm for the new partnership: “I am excited to be working with the Sawa project because it will go beyond ZAMCOM’s usual scope and allow me to inspire and share my knowledge with vulnerable youth who are living in ordinary communities. The sky is the limit and we will go very far!”
As with other new partners, Sawa will award ZAMCOM a $1000 start up grant. The organization will use this to engage at risk youth in an assignment to locate and interview potential Sawa Leaders in their communities.
