Online Store Opens New Doors
The Kibera slum outside of Nairobi, Kenya is the second largest slum in Africa and one of the biggest in the world. Approximately 60% of the Nairobi population live in the slum among the 2.5 million habitants. Sawa World has seen, first-hand, some of the unique solutions used to alleviate poverty in the community.
Pamela, a local artisan, creates beautiful hand crafted jewellery; not only to support herself, but her neighbours as well. “I have a small arts and crafts store. I use the profits to support single mothers with an income. They often take care of five children or more and have HIV/ AIDS.”
With the launch of Sawa World’s online store, anyone can help continue to support Pamela’s work and the work of Sawa World. The proceeds collected from products sold online support the programs and work of Sawa World.
Most of the products are purchased directly from Pamela and celebrate Sawa World’s unique approach to alleviating world poverty. Now also for sale are the unique Sawa Youth T-shirts and 100% of the funds for these support the training and monthly allowances for unemployed and marginalized youth in Uganda.
