The radio announcement was like a beacon call to Kakuya Alfred: Come to Sawa World Day 2015 to learn low-capital, easily replicable skills to create self-employment. Alfred was in a dire situation; he had spent three fruitless years seeking work in Kampala despite earning an honors degree in social science from Makerere University.

The annual Sawa World Day event left him brimming with new ideas and optimism for his future. There, he smartly recorded phone videos on many Sawa World Solutions — making baby toys, books, candles and how to raise chickens and rabbits. His home-made baby toys soon earned him 300,000 UGX ($89 US), which in turn funded his production of books. Before long, he was training and hiring family members to supply local markets. His efforts generated 1,000,000 UGX ($297 US), enough profit to start a piggery project. Upgrading his sustainable enterprises, the hard-working entrepreneur added a motorcycle to efficiently transport his products to market.

Sawa World Day 2015 was a major turning point in Alfred’s life. Thrilled to help others, he plans to bring local youth to Sawa World Day 2016 at the Solution Centre in Kampala on September 24.  Come and find your life-changing Solution!
